I never had the pleasure of meeting Ryan Dunn but I feel like I’ve known him a long time. From CKY to Jackass to Viva La Bam and Wild Boyz to The Jackass Films, I feel like I’ve gotten to know all of those guys over the last 13 years or so. They made getting hit in the nuts funny again.
I was shocked and saddened to learn of the passing of the Random Hero, Ryan Dunn. He was hilariously funny, possessed the courage of a daredevil, and appeared to be an all around good guy. He was always one of my favorite Jackasses and he will be missed.
Here we go!! NEW Neutron City Comix Strip!! YAY!! They said it couldn’t be done. They were wrong. They said I was crazy to even try. Oh? Well who’s laughing now Mrs. Esterhaus? HAHAHAHAHAHA!! BTW, FYI, I also have five more scripts and thumbnailed layouts finished so be ready. The second part of “Triceratops!! Raaaarrgh!!” sho...uld be coming pretty soon followed by four more hilariously swell comics and then… Who knows? I’m sure it will only get better and better as we go.

I have a few more already written and ready for art with a couple more still in the idea stage. Hopefully I will be able to get them finished quickly enough that people don’t stop caring. Enjoy!! I’m gonna go ahead and start on the next one!! Later Days!!
…AND, I just realized that I neglected to give credit for use of the Heart Logo T-Shirt to the lovely and talented Katie Cook of katiecandraw.com She was nice enough to say it was ok previously and I mentioned it in the previous strip but forgot on this one. My bad.
Here you go… The thrilling conclusion to the “Monster Maxx!!” storyline. On time and under budget. Woo-HOO!! I stayed up all night to finish it on time so I hope you silly little monkeys like it. Go ahead… Get your GEEK on!!
I figured I owed it to you guys to go ahead and post this one as an apology present for dragging my bottom on posting new comics. I just finished it today. Sit back, relax, and enjoy Part 2 of “Monster Maxx!!”
FINALLY!! The triumphant return of Neutron City Comix!! This is Part 1 of 3 of: Monster Maxx!! Sorry about the delay. Hopefully it won't happen again. Enjoy!
What happened:
...Well, here's the thing. I sometimes have these little creative dry-spells. It sucks but, hey, what are ya gonna do? First, I hit a snag whilst writing this strip. It just wasn't flowing properly and I couldn't figure out why. I developed a technique for writing stand-up back when I was a comedian that I dusted off and applied to the task of writing comics. It worked and it turned out that the problem was that I was trying to cram 3 comics worth of material into one; hence Monster Maxx!! PART 1. Expect 2 more parts in the coming weeks. Then once I had the script sussed out I found I was simultaneously experiencing a drawing dry-spell. Nothing was looking the way I wanted it to and I really didn't want to half-ass it. So I waited. I hope it was worth it.
I realize that I made some statements indicating that I would be
uploading TWO strips today but I decided to space it out a bit so that
the second strip will drop on Wednesday. If I can manage it, Wednesday
will be NEW COMIX DAY here at Neutron City Comix. New Comix Day… That
has a nice ring to it. Comic shops ought to start using that…
I have lived in Nashville, Tennessee for most of my life and while it's not my favorite place in the world, it is most certainly my home. This weekend, the city of Nashville fell victim to some real "Wrath Of God" type stuff. The whole effin' city flooded. And not just a little flooding either. Nope. The Cumberland river at Riverfront Park was up 50 FEET. All of 1st Avenue was submerged. I had a river running down my driveway (taking every bit of the gravel with it) and a lake where my front yard once was. It almost seemed like it wasn't going to stop. For me, luckily, the waters stopped rising before making it inside my home. Not everyone in town was so lucky.
It's surreal to see all this stuff as it's happening, to receive phone calls from friends describing the utter devastation going on all around them and turning on the TV to find... NOTHING. Aside from local news outlets doing what they can to keep everyone locally informed, there was absolutelynothing on TV about it at all. There was simply NO national coverage. Unless you lived here there was no way for anyone to know. I scoured the computernet looking for any mention of what was happening and all I found was news about the oil spill, the NY car bombing failure and some stupid teenage schmuck getting shot by a taser at a baseball game. I can understand the oil spill and the car bombing attempt taking up a good part of the news cycle, but the taser schmuck? I don't see how that is somehow more newsworthy than a metropolitan city sinking in a flood.
Keith Olberman finally said something as did John Stewart. Is that not something we should worry about? Listen, I love both Stewart and Olberman and have a tremendous amount of respect and admiration for what they do but I think it's a little messed up that the "court jesters" of the news are the first ones to draw national attention to a natural disaster. CNN, you've failed us. You guys really dropped the ball on this one.
I'm not mad, I'm just really disappointed.
Here's another Nashvillian's take on the situation that I feel is worth reading.
I remember sitting in the theater, watching Apollo 13 from the edge of my seat having become fully invested in the story and the characters. 15 years later (earlier tonight) I sat in my home theater, watching Apollo 13 on Blu-Ray, wondering why the HELL they would release a 15th Anniversary Edition of such an astoundingly powerful movie, and not bother to clean up the film at all. It does not appear to have been remastered; the transfer seems to have been made from a print that wasn't even cleaned up at all before hand.
Now, I don't claim to be a technical expert on how movies make it from film to Blu-Ray discs, however, I do know that I've seen older movies that looked way better and cleaner than this one. Cool Hand Luke springs to mind. Also, the special effects do not hold up in high definition. The blue screen shots are even more obvious here than in most films from the 80's and the digital bits have an unshakable "Playstation 2" feel to them that is tremendously disappointing.
I am currently taking a short break from watching The BBC's WILD CHINA on Blu-Ray and I was inspired to bang out a Quickie (that sounds more perverted than intended).
First of all, if you have half a brain in your ass you already own a Blu-Ray player. Those of you who don't should go get one immediately (assuming you own a car and/or know what money is). To be sure you get the most out of your Blu-Ray experience, I suggest you check out one or more of the many, many Nature Documentaries produced by the BBC. Unless you've been living underground for the last few years you've at least heard of if not seen PLANET EARTH. In my opinion they should include a copy of PLANET EARTH with every Blu-Ray player. You are really doing yourself a disservice if you don't own it. It is one of the most amazing documentary series I've ever seen and HD is really the only way to see it. Here are a few other BBC Blu-Ray titles that I personally recommend:
Galapagos
Ganges
Nature's Most Amazing Events
Wild China
Wild Pacific
Make sure you sit on a sturdy chair when watching these documentaries as they are certain to BLOW YOUR ASS OUT!!
