I never had the pleasure of meeting Ryan Dunn but I feel like I’ve known him a long time. From CKY to Jackass to Viva La Bam and Wild Boyz to The Jackass Films, I feel like I’ve gotten to know all of those guys over the last 13 years or so. They made getting hit in the nuts funny again.
I was shocked and saddened to learn of the passing of the Random Hero, Ryan Dunn. He was hilariously funny, possessed the courage of a daredevil, and appeared to be an all around good guy. He was always one of my favorite Jackasses and he will be missed.
Here we go. The thrilling conclusion to the “Roz: Female” Saga. I hope you guys enjoy having Roz around. I have some fun talks planned for her and the boys. (The boys and she?) I have a few more already written and ready for art with a couple more still in the idea stage. Hopefully I will be able to get them finished quickly enough that people don’t stop caring. Enjoy!! I’m gonna go ahead and start on the next one!! Later Days!!
…AND, I just realized that I neglected to give credit for use of the Heart Logo T-Shirt to the lovely and talented Katie Cook of katiecandraw.com She was nice enough to say it was ok previously and I mentioned it in the previous strip but forgot on this one. My bad.
I was at Wizard World in Chicago all weekend so it’s not likely there
will be a new comic on Wednesday. I DID, however, do this little
“Onesie” while I was at the convention. Hopefully it will tide everyone
over until I can post a proper comic next week. (It does remind me why
I decided NOT to hand letter them after the first three.)
I did it! As
promised! Two strips by the end of the week. I rule. This strip introduces Lionel Joseph, foreign exchange student. Maxx gave him his American
name as an homage to Dan Aykroyd’s pre-PC blackface alias in Trading
Places. It’s ok. Lionel Joseph likes his new American name, his
new American family, and his new American bedroom which is twice as big
as his whole house back home. Maxx is not nearly as enthusiastic
about his new lodgings in his parents’ garage.
(I am now realizing
that you may not be able to make out the text on Maxx’s shirt. It
reads: “Insert Head Here”)
I'm gonna try to give you the short version so as not to bore you to death.
Ok, A while back I met an artist at Wizard World Chicago named Katie Cook. She's amazing. She's a total nerd, she loves Star Wars and all the other geek stuff, she's an incredibly talented artist and she's very funny. (Relax, boys. She's married.) Do yourself a favor and go here and check her out.
At the time she had yet to start the actual webcomic. Now that she's started, I thought I'd do another piece of fan-art for her. The original idea was to have Gronk sitting on a log, looking bummed, and being consoled by Kermit The Frog. Then I thought, "You know what? Katie also really likes The Hulk and he's green, too." Then when I started sketching it out I thought, "Hey, Katie also likes Star Wars and Yoda's green as well!" It just sort of spiraled out of control from there. Enjoy.
I have lived in Nashville, Tennessee for most of my life and while it's not my favorite place in the world, it is most certainly my home. This weekend, the city of Nashville fell victim to some real "Wrath Of God" type stuff. The whole effin' city flooded. And not just a little flooding either. Nope. The Cumberland river at Riverfront Park was up 50 FEET. All of 1st Avenue was submerged. I had a river running down my driveway (taking every bit of the gravel with it) and a lake where my front yard once was. It almost seemed like it wasn't going to stop. For me, luckily, the waters stopped rising before making it inside my home. Not everyone in town was so lucky.
It's surreal to see all this stuff as it's happening, to receive phone calls from friends describing the utter devastation going on all around them and turning on the TV to find... NOTHING. Aside from local news outlets doing what they can to keep everyone locally informed, there was absolutelynothing on TV about it at all. There was simply NO national coverage. Unless you lived here there was no way for anyone to know. I scoured the computernet looking for any mention of what was happening and all I found was news about the oil spill, the NY car bombing failure and some stupid teenage schmuck getting shot by a taser at a baseball game. I can understand the oil spill and the car bombing attempt taking up a good part of the news cycle, but the taser schmuck? I don't see how that is somehow more newsworthy than a metropolitan city sinking in a flood.
Keith Olberman finally said something as did John Stewart. Is that not something we should worry about? Listen, I love both Stewart and Olberman and have a tremendous amount of respect and admiration for what they do but I think it's a little messed up that the "court jesters" of the news are the first ones to draw national attention to a natural disaster. CNN, you've failed us. You guys really dropped the ball on this one.
I'm not mad, I'm just really disappointed.
Here's another Nashvillian's take on the situation that I feel is worth reading.
Here it is. The long awaited, much anticipated, freshman attempt at a webcomic by Danny Limor: Super-Genius Time Traveler. Be nice. We're just getting started.
I'll start introducing the characters in the next one.
